I missed my chilli crabs from home – so when seafood paradise open its door in downtown Vancouver – we were invited by a few Malaysian friend to try it out. The spouse who was very into spicy food – told the waitress he wanted it as spicy as it gets – so here it is ! Spicy chilli crab and by the time we were done, we were all in tears – and sweating big time. The next time we order chilli crabs – guess who isn’t doing the ordering. Food needs to be enjoyed and not to torture our tongue.

The husband found some chinese tarts in Hong Kong – to bring home for me, he knew i was craving for them. But he was stopped at custom and the refused to let him bring it into Canada. Luckily, he took some pictures of them when they came out fresh from the oven. I could eat 3 of these with a cup of teh-tarik !

Craving for Portuguese tarts – the spouse took a special trip when he was in Hong Kong to Macau. Of course, he had to entertain some clients – go look for the casinos there and eat some tarts. The Portuguese tarts are different from the chinese tarts or the custard ones that you can find in Hong Kong – this one is caramelized – the sweet layer of sugar on top makes the Portuguese tart unique and the pastry cup is a little thicker than the normal tarts found in the main island. They are cheap too – at about $1 a piece in Macau.

We can’t find this here – but the spouse who travels a lot bought this in Japan for me – for our anniversary. 18 yrs together – and he knows me best. I love all things crystal – I hear they bring good luck – the Chinese are superstitious and the spouse indulge me many times. Sometimes, he does make fun of my superstition but I guess when your other half is so paranoid about everything – you just go with the flow and avoid any confrontation and displeasure of the other. I don’t like that he travels so much – but I accept it too. 18 yrs is a really long time not to give and take – plus my kids keep me busy all the time – so I really don’t mind it so much now.
