
A friend’s kid had her birthday the other day and his sister had baked this cake entirely on her own from scratch. Since the kid wanted a princess cake, she made one that looked like a princess crown. Those pink and black stuff i think are bubble gums. They tasted pretty good too – one thing the Western gals are good at is the baking and the cookie making.

This cake was home made, I’ll have to say the friend’s sister is very talented. I was impressed and so was the birthday boy. Really, really home made, the next time my kid has a birthday, I’m gonna get her to do one for her. Look at how detail the cake is, you have to give her an A+ for the cake. No I didn’t get the recipe on how to bake it but the wife is not into baking, more into cooking and eating out in restaurants, so I didn’t ask for the recipe. But if you need it, let me know and I’ll try and get it for you. I can imagine how much work it is to make one of this.

I’m a real sandwich eater, I can eat sandwiches for all my meals but the wife likes varieties of fillings for her sandwiches and these home made chicken salad that you can get from Sobeys is one of the best thing. Not too, too expensive and pretty good. We keep them in our fridge for emergencies, alas the daughter won’t eat it.

Seafood salad goes good with toast too, not as expensive as the chicken salad but like i said, the wife like different kind of varieties. But I think she loves her smoked salmon best and although compared to where she is from, it is way cheaper her, she won’t buy them too often.

We used to travel a lot for work and the wife misses her hotel breakfast, so once in a while, I’ll make this anything goes omelet for her. Just a change of taste and different food for her and soemtimes, we have this for a late nite supper. Unlike what she was used to in Asia, she can get food in the middle of the night from the hawker center just a few minutes walk away. If given a choice, I think she would have prefer to have dim sum instead or some chilli crab.
Omelets are easy to make and you can put anything you like into it and flip it after it is cooked and you are all done. We used a good wok, so no oil is need and it doesn’t stick onto the wok too. I recommend Tfal because Meyers doesn’t seems to last too long. Our investment in a good Tfal was the best decision we made getting a wok.

What do you do when you see this huge crate of sweet potatoes..?? In our family, we make sweet potatoes tempura !! the kid loves it, the wife thinks it is healthy and me – it’s easy enough to peel them off and cut them up and dump them into the deep fryer or better yet put them in the oven and baked them. We watch tv and munched them down. The kid thinks I’m a hero and the wife thinks I am a good father.
LARGE Sweet Potatoes
Vegetable Oil
Tempura Batter for Vegetables, Meat & Fish
Preheat the deep fat fryer to 365 degrees.
Wash the sweet potatoes.
Parboil for about 10 minutes.
Pare the sweet potatoes and cut into 1/2? wide x 1/2? thick strips.
Dip the sweet potato strips into the tempura batter.
Place in skimmer and gently lower into the deep fat fryer.
Remove the sweet potato strips from the hot fat with the skimmer when they
float to the surface and have turned golden brown.
Serve hot.


A man has gotta eat what he likes to eat and yes – cheese whiz is a must for almost anything i eat. Baked fish sticks and some potatoes that belongs to the kid and lots of Cheese whiz is my affair if the wife insist that I eat some seafood.
