New Restaurants In Vancouver

Trips to Vancouver usually amazes me how many new restaurants are opened – since the last time we were there – and we do go to Vancouver very often at that.  Recently there – we were introduced to some fine dining around Vancouver – by some business associate of the spouse – and food was indeed awesome.  With so many restaurants popping up like popcorn in Vancouver,  I too want to own a  restaurant supplies company in Vancouver, I bet I will make some good money.

This was a Japanese restaurant that we had gone to – I can’t remember the name – but it was at West Broadway – and it was pretty good and will try this restaurant again in the near future.

More sashimi – for us during the evening.

We had also visited a new Chinese restaurant that sold roasted pig – I haven’t had this for a long time now.

food4

Some fried crab noodles for the table.

And for dessert – mini egg tarts.  Yummy to the max.  I do love going to Vancouver – they have so many nice and great restaurants there – I would love to live there when the spouse retires.

Love my Japanese rice – it’s called Chirashi Rice – one can easily make this at home too – but I ate at my favorite sushi place in town – inaguku.   They always give me lots of rice – I can’t finished it at all – and if the spouse was around – he would share it with me – but if I am alone like today – I rarely finish it – and sometimes they get so worried that I may not have found the food good at all – but I just don’t eat a lot.  There are different kind of chirashi rice you can make or taste in a restaurant or home – and they always turn up good.   I love any kind of Japanese food – when I was young – I thought I would married a Japanese man – hahah!  only to find out that they are really not my type.  So what is my type?  the big, strong and friendly type? but for now – I’m happy with my Japanese food and no Japanese man please.

Good Japanese and Bad Japanese

Many a times – since moving to the West – I would settle for any kind of Japanese – but not anymore.  If I had to eat mediocre Japanese food – I rather not eat any.  So when I came across this little restaurant just an hour away from our town – I had to drive all the way there to have my good Japanese food.   Not many people in the West here knows how to appreciate Japanese food – I find that they loved the greasy food best but once in a while – you come across someone who can appreciate the same kind of food as you do – and you grab ahold of them and never let go of your foodie companion.  I’m glad to let you all know that I’ve found some really good friends who would share my passion for food, and like good friends – we get a long really well – all in the name of good food.  I never eat bad Japanese no more.

Blissful Lunch

We had wanted to do Korean – but decided against it and went to Minato instead.  Catching up was awesome especially with a good bowl of ramen on a cold rainy day.  While the girlfriend had a beer to go with her Japanese sushi – I had some green tea – it was a blissful lunch and even though I don’t have lunch with my girlfriends as often as I want to – we are happy to be able to meet up whenever we can.  We just settled into our own life – that sometimes we just need to take a break from our daily routine and see old friends and chat.  Catching up is always great with these old friends.

Bliss In My Tummy

It had been a hectic week for us – the kids out of school and us preparing the oldest to go to college – so it was kinda nice to be able to sit and have a bowl of Japanese Ramen in my favorite restaurant in the city.   Nothing makes me happier to eat Japanese food and good Japanese food always makes me a very blissful woman and everything else seems as lot easier to handle.   This ramen in miso soup is my favorite and the owner – Miyagi-San is the best – he always gives me extra broth that he knows I love slurping although the spouse don’t feel the same way – he hates the slurping noises.  Oh well!

Sumptious Lunch

Can you guessed what I had for lunch?

lunch1

Japanese of course ! my absolute favorite!  frankly speaking I don’t know how the Japanese restaurant makes the sushi so fresh and non-fishy smell and the Unagi sauce are to die for.  There are quite a few good places for sushi in Toronto. I don’t like to go to the ones in Markham but prefer the more authentic Japanese restaurants with a real Japanese chef or one trained in Japan for many years.

sushi

And this sushi place has a picture of Marilyn Monroe on its wall – pretty unique for a Japanese eating house – but the interior is nothing spectacular nor the outside of the building.  But who cares right – as long as the sushi is fresh and the variety is good.  But Sushi places in Toronto can be very expensive and the one in downtown Toronto is quite hefty in prices.

lunch2

My family and I like this place a lot and whenever we are in Toronto – we will be here for sure.  But this trip it is only me and the spouse – and the bill still ended up to more than $100 + tips.  Not a cheap lunch but definitely good.

Dinner With My Bestie

dinner

Dinner with my bestie at a Japanese restaurant is all about good food, good conversation and of course all about her latest investments.  From gold coins to properties or a new shop or adventure and then we have a good heart to heart talk about our life – relationships.  My besties isn’t married but it isn’t because she is lack of suitors or friends – it is her choice not to be in a permanent relationship.  How flamboyant some might say – but whatever she chooses, I am there to support her.  My bestie has a good head on her shoulder, an acumen for investing and business decisions and an unlikely person to scam.

We’ve known each other for years – since we were in high school and wherever she travels, she remembers to bring home something for me and my kids.  My kids adore her and she is like an aunt they never have.  My own siblings on the other hand are not as smart nor spontaneous or loving as my bestie – sometimes I wonder what make them different.  While my bestie is a hardworking and a smart woman – my sisters are the ones who just wants to get married to a rich man.  My siblings and I were never closed – money talks are just about them being in need of money help from me.  On the other hand, my bestie is the one who give sound advice on investments and each of my child gets a gold coin from my bestie every year for doing well in school.  My bestie counts for my siblings that I never had a good repertoire with – and I am blessed.

Appetizer – Trying Something Different

kiwi

I am having some dinner party at our home for Christmas – so I’ve decided to try a few new things this year.  A new appetizer to start with – Kiwi with potato salad – quite yummy to be honest – with lots of fruit salad cream.  So instead of bacon and scallop also one of my favorites – this is what I will be doing for our Christmas party at home.  Our Christmas party is held on boxing day for friends – family and neighbors.

Blue Fin Sashimi – Australia Style

The spouse and I had the pleasure of being invited to a dinner with some celebrity chef from Australia – at Tatsu – in Vancouver.  I wouldn’t be paying $150 per pax had it not been a company’s dinner with some client of the spouse.  I have to say – I’m really impressed with the dish – a Blue Fin Tuna Sashimi with Avocado.  The tuna melted in my mouth – and I was only able to take one picture – as I didn’t want to embarrass the spouse.

Ramen Fetish

The spouse and I have this thing about Ramen and whenever we see a Ramen store – we go like – Ohhhhhh!! R.A.M.E.N!  literally!  we love our ramen and when we found one opened near our neighborhood – we decided to pop in to take a look and maybe try it out.  But alas, they were full housed.  Another day – another time!  We’ll be back!
