Old Favorites

For some who may not have come from Asia – you probably wouldn’t know about this old favorite of mine – it’s a malay dish actually consisting of fragrant coconut rice, sambal, ikan bilis, fried ikan kuning, cucumber, fried eggs and sometimes begedil. Having lived in Toronto for so long, you would think that one can easily find the above dish – Nasi Lemak easily but not true – so if I have an old craving for it, I will just have to cook them myself.  Too bad the spouse and the kids don’t enjoy it as much as I do, else I would be cooking this a lot more.

Organic & Natural

flaxseed

It has only been a couple of years since I started watching what I eat and going as organic and natural as possible.  I have also started on eating both flax seed and nuts  – lots of them instead of eating junk food.  Well, I still do eat the junk food every now and then – but I also try my hardest to balance them with the good stuff.  Everyone asked me about the benefits of flax seed whenever I go shopping with my girlfriends and the benefits are enormous.   Flax seed is known to improve your skin,  lower your cholesterol and is said to guard against heart disease but these are only a few benefits – because I also hear that it helps with aiding of losing weight and every woman out there is always looking for something to help them lose that extra stubborn pounds right?  So am I – I do need to take a few off  – so that was when I started looking at an organic and natural weight.  And flax seed actually don’t taste bad at all – so check it out yourself because when I’m in front of the tv and feel that I need something to munch on – the flax seed comes first.

Korean Town

I was in LA a few months ago and my Korean co-worker said to me one night that the Korean food in LA, I’ve got to try because they are way better than the ones he gets from home.  And who is to argue with him when he is orginally from Korean right.

Korean Town in LA was the place we went and the BBQ was pretty good but moreso the dippings that came with it.  You know that they are mostly home made because of their robust in taste and the beef was so soft and tender, it just slid down my throat.   And don’t miss on the kimchis they offer, i try everyone of them and amused everyone of my co-workers in LA.

Are you stupid? Do you belong on this website? I thought I did, at least a little, and it turns out I was right. I’m a little stupid, but not too much. I think the questions I got wrong were mostly the ones relating to the US.

Epic Movie

This was without a doubt one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen.  I never laughed once throughout the entire thing!  Normally I like this sort of thing, Naked Gun, Hot Shots and Ace Ventura are among my favorite comedies.  Even the original Scary Movie was pretty good, but this, Epic Movie, was a steaming piece of dog shit (and just as funny).  If you haven’t seen it, DON’T!  If you have seen it, you have my condolences.

The Little Console that Couldn’t

0

I used to own a Dreamcast, like a lot of people, and for it’s time it was a great console.  The graphics were great and there were some decent games on it that haven’t been seen since.  Armada was one of my all time favorites and despite rumors of an Armada 2 showing up on XBox, PS2 and newer generation systems, it never came to be.

What killed this great console?  Sega’s last foray into the console hardware market?  I believe piracy had a strong hand in it.  Don’t get me wrong, normally when the corporate big-wigs start blaming piracy for the loss of billions of fun bux in the entertainment industry I just roll my eyes.  A lot of pirates wouldn’t buy the item anyway, even if that was their only choice, the ‘industry’ loses nothing from those people.  But in the case of the Dreamcast it was just too easy to play copied games and I feel that it really hurt their software sales.  You didn’t even need to install a mod chip or run any kind of crack on the console itself.  Download a game, run a little file to crack it, burn it to a CD and you normally had a perfectly working copy of the game.

I could be wrong in all of this of course, but I’m too lazy to bother doing more in-depth research into SEGAs reasons for letting such a good piece of hardware die an early death.  I think I’m right (at least somewhat) and that’s good enough for me.

Idiot Shoplifter

This particular idjit I had the pleasure of seeing personally.  A guy came into the store I work at and wandered around a bit, he kept looking at the counter and we quickly got the whole ‘this guy’s going to steal’ vibe from him.  Sure enough, he bent down behind a shelf for a moment at which point one of the counter girls called over to him “Can I help you sir?”.  He stood back up right away and said no, he was just browsing.  He finished his walk around the aisle and promptly left.

Thinking that something was amiss I went over to check on the stuff he had walked past and after several minutes figured out that something was in fact missing.  I went down to the office to review the security footage and sure enough, at the time when the girl shouted over to him, he was in the middle of putting a box into his jacket, but he put that back on the shelf.  The item he stole, he stuffed down his coat sleeve, was a 10 pack of blank cassette tapes.  Yep, it’s hard to enough to believe that we still have such a thing in stock let alone someone wanting to steal them.

After being picked up 20 minutes later by the police, stolen goods still in his possession, he even said to the cops “yeah it was pretty stupid to steal that, I should have taken something better..”   My immediate reponse to that was “He shouldn’t have been stealing anything in the first place!”  What an idjit.

Pelican Stuck in Tree

I don’t know which is more stupid; the bird for getting stuck in the tree or CNN for treating it as a big news story. I mean, birds can fly so it’s not exactly stuck there, unless it impaled itself on a branch or something. Maybe got it’s foot caught, I suppose there’s a few ways this could happen, but come on CNN I’m sure there’s more interesting things to report on, right?!

I’ve been working in retail for most of my working life, if it weren’t for being self employed during most of those years I’d have run away screaming a long time ago.

Hey man you wanna buy a 17″ CRT monitor?
Nah, I’ve got a bunch in stock already but no one wants them, everyone wants an LCD these days.
The day everyone has one of those is the day I become president.

walks in holding a copy of NHL 2003 for GameCube
Any way I can trade this for another game?
Not for something that old, I have those in a $5 bin and they still don’t sell
Oh, well can you give me $5 for it?
We only sell them for $5 ourselves!
