So the spouse and I were recently eating in an outdoor cafe in Florida and there were ladies smoking not cigarettes – but cigars. I loved the smell of cigar more than cigarette, so I didn’t mind at all – afterall, you see J. Lo smoking a cigar every now and then too. But some people in my group were quite appalled to see the ladies smoking macanudo cigar – and I was quite surprised because in this time and age, you would think that people are a lot more open and acceptable to anything. And to me smoking a cigar was not really a huge deal – even if you are a woman. I didn’t join in the conversation of course because some people are just so into themselves – but I did say to these people that I didn’t mind the cigar smell at all – I hope they get my message. But truth be told I think ladies who smoke cigars are a lot more sexier and I truly admire them for daring to try other things and not care what others think of them.
The son wants a cool motu 896mk3 from guitar center for Christmas – and he needs to be able to justify why he needs such an expensive DJ equipment for his band – not like he is performing for a concert or a show. But of course, that’s all that he is asking – but it’s still a little too expensive in my opinion. So I’ve made him a deal - he needs to raise money with band members and for every dollar he raises – we will match it – till he raise enough money to buy it themselves. I figured I need to teach them the value of money – and that not everything that they asked for they can get – they need to work for it.
Remembrance Day is gone, so we figured we should start Christmas decorating immediately so that we can enjoy the Christmas lighting longer. So we started packing up stuff around the house, in order to put up the Christmas decoration and realized that we need a better dvd rack for the tv room. Our DVDs are overflowing and they are placed just about anywhere and everywhere around the house, so unsightly. So first thing tomorrow, I’m going to look for a good dvd rack and have them all placed in the same place. Can’t have our guests come to our house during Christmas and see a mess right. In the meantime, the dvds are inside a box in the basement and the kids are not too happy about it but they just have to wait till I get the right DVD rack.
Duck hunting may not be here yet but after seeing the best selection Bates boots I’m quite tempted to get some for the spouse and the uncle who loves duck hunting. They go every year and they camp out for days and do the guys’ stuff while doing their duck hunting, the spouse says it’s absolutely fun. I figured it’s better than going to the bar and getting drunk or to the casinos in the city and losing all his money or chasing skirts, so as soon as he said he is going hunting, I’m good with it and encouraged it in fact. Healthy sport I tell everyone, and I make sure I get him the best hunting boots and orange overall and anything he needs for his duck hunting. Of course, I have to make sure that his gun possession license is renewed too every year.
The kids had asked that we buy some new clothes for them for spring this weekend and they had chosen to get some hip hop clothing at FlyMode.com . It’s not easy being a kid in school these days – and we know all about it because if you wear too flashy, some friends might teased you. But if you don’t dress up properly and fit in the group or crowd, you get shunned too – or teased or worst looked down on. Having some fashion sense is important for kid who are in their teenage years and they are so conscious about how they present themselves.
Although the spouse and I do not believed in giving them everything they want nor do we believed in buying branded clothing for them. It’s important that we do dress them up for school – for unlike in Asia – kids all wear the same uniform and shoes, here in the West you are on your own. So if they wanted hip hop clothing and they are reasonably priced, we will buy for them.
The local music scene can be quite boring at times but sometimes we get some really good jazz band playing and tonight we have some great folks coming all the way from Shelburne county. Everyone in town is excited and of course, you can expect them to be coming more often if they feel welcome. I loved to be in the committee to bring all these talented people to share with the town folks, the spouse said I’m getting arty fartsy but it’s my chance to show my kids how wonderful music can be in their lives as well.
For some people it’s a dream job – for others it can be quite taxing on any relationship. So people asked me all the time – how does our relationship survived with the spouse traveling so much. I think it’s great because he does his things and when he comes home – it’s a huge romantic get together again – and even with children – i have to say we still have it together.
Some asked me if I am worried that he may have a girlfriend at every port – and to tell you that I don’t – that’s a lie – that’s why I go visit unannounced every now and then – that way I would know if he has a girlfriend. It’s not a matter of trust – it’s a matter of being smart. If you don’t care or if you don’t demand that he is faithful then he won’t be faithful. The spouse knows what he will be up for if he was cheating on us (not just me – but the kids) and really I doubt he wants to start all over again – too lazy to start another relationship and have children all over again – hahah!
Easier said than done – but like all parents – we want to do our best and not let anything bad happen to our babies. But what if your baby is a bit older and wiser and decided that they want to learn to play guitar but they are so young – I hear you grumbling – what do they know right? Same thoughts too on my part – but if you don’t let them do what they are interested in most at the moment – then you are depriving them of learning a new instruments and/or developing what true talent they may have or do not have. Being a good mom doesn’t mean you have to get everything for them because they want it – but if you can find a cheap way for them to learn it online – why not? So if anyone tells me that their kids want to take up guitar lessons – I strongly suggest this online site for guitar lessons – real cheap too!
I came across this book earlier this year – and didn’t think much about it – till I met an old friend from my childhood days. And when I saw this book again – I was reminded about him and his thinking and those of his dad. Song and his father – even his mother are from the 50s and stuck in the 50s I think. I met Song after 25 years and although his wife look skinny – and he has 3 kids – the wife is dressed well – still in the 70s I think but definitely respectable looking. Song seems to be doing well – his kids are teenagers – and I’m happy for him. But he still is the gentleman that I’ve known when I was a teenager – but I’m sure he must now look at me – and think – hey ! i looked and dress better than his wife and more well -traveled than he.
Life is sure funny isn’t it ! I don’t think I would have been happy if I did end up with Song – he and his family are just so old-fashioned. I doubt his wife ever traveled on her own nor his children.
The spouse had been working for the same company for about 20 years now and this year he is in charge of ordering the long service award for his subordinates. They have the 5 years award, the 10 years, the 15 years and then the 25 years. I suggested personalized coin instead of the usual acrylic award – that way the employees can just carry it with him – if he wants to show them to his families and friends – instead of leaving them at home or in the office – where no one can see it and admire it.
I would prefer the personalized coin myself – because it would be a great talking piece for company’s function or going for a company’s convention or anything business related. And if you are working for a established company like the spouse’s – the price per coin is definitely worth looking into – since you will be ordering more than just 100. It is a good idea – I hope he brings it up to his boss – and if his boss was as smart as I – I’m sure he would go for the personalized coins too.
